I received my acceptance letter for Midwifery School on Monday, February 14, 2011, five days after I had my phone interview. I was cranky all day and was cursing the Valentine’s Day traffic for making me miss yoga. But then I got home and checked my mail and started laughing hysterically! I’m sure the other people checking their mail thought I was loony, but I was just so happy and surprised and nervous that I had already received an envelope from them. The first words I saw when I opened it were “Congratulations!” and that’s when I really started laughing. I was accepted into the school that was my first choice and knew shortly after applying that I had been accepted. It’s a great feeling. My enrollment agreement has been sent in, my FAFSA filled out, and I’m applying for Work Study. So Things are on a roll.
So in six months, I’m going to be moving all the way across the country to attend this school. The only thing I’m really afraid of is the weather….Maine isn’t exactly like Arizona . I don’t have much experience with cold weather or snow except random trips to Flagstaff and what passes for winter in Arizona . I should mention that I HATE the cold: Cold weather, cold water, anything cold; even my teeth hate the cold. But since I received my acceptance letter, I have been actively trying to appreciate the frigid weather in Arizona (which isn’t really very Frigid, I’m just a big baby) to prepare myself for the weather in Maine . I’ll learn to love any kind of weather if it means I can fulfill my dream of becoming a midwife. I am so beyond excited to be doing this.
It will be my first time living in another state for an extended period of time. I’ve lived abroad four times, but this is different. This is going to be my life for three to four years. My next steps are to keep saving money, finish my yoga teacher certification, and CLEAN OUT my entire apartment. I want to move with as little as possible: A fresh start.
